Want to really get kids excited about cooking? Invite them to participate in a junior chef competition! On March 15, 2018 the Bethel Public School district in Connecticut held their annual Future Chefs All-Star Edition cooking competition sponsored by Sodexo. While several children submitted recipes for this competition, only six finalists were selected to be participate. The best part? Junior chefs were paired with high school seniors who served as sous chefs, assisting in bringing the junior chef’s recipe from grocery bag to perfectly plated.
This year’s theme, Asian Fusion, called for an assortment of innovative Asian dishes. Picked among the recipes was Guiding Stars recipe for Spicy Korean Tacos. This recipe was picked for it’s healthy ingredients and kid appeal! Made with low-sodium soy sauce and easily adjusted to be made allergy friendly, this recipe came together quickly by my son, nine-year-old chef, Drew Stowell, and was enjoyed by judges and fellow participants alike.
