This convenient and easy-to-use shelf tag program allows shoppers to see at a glance foods that offer the most nutrition for the calories and identify the key health benefits of each item.
On Oct. 20, 2011, the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) Food and Nutrition Board presented results and recommendations from the Committee on Examination of Front-of-Package Nutrition Ratings Systems and Symbols (Phase II).
The direction recommended by the IOM is strongly validating of the Guiding Stars nutrition guidance program, which has been in the marketplace now for five years.
Canada has a new partner to help consumers navigate the nutritional value of the food they buy. Loblaw Cos. Ltd., Canada’s largest national grocery chain, introduced a pilot program of the Guiding Stars nutrition guidance system in four of its Toronto-area stores. Guiding Stars has been implemented in a number of U.S. supermarkets since 2006.
