Warm spices, apples, and a splash of vinegar spice up this cabbage making a nice fall harvest side dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups shredded red cabbage
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ tsp. ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tsp. sugar

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, stir together the cabbage, water, vinegar, allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, covered, stirring occasionally, adding small amounts of water if needed to keep from sticking until cabbage is soft (15 minutes).
  2. Stir in the apples. Cook, covered, until apples begin to soften for 5 minutes. Uncover and cook until all the moisture has cooked away (3-4 minutes).
  3. Stir in the sugar.
