If you’re in a hurry, you can use frozen green beans for this recipe. Garlic, chili paste, and sesame oil coat the green beans and red pepper with a spicy, smokey flavor that is absolutely luxurious.

Tip: If you use frozen beans, you can skip steps 1 and 2, as beans are blanched before freezing anyway.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced
  • ½ tsp. chili paste
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. pepper

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the beans and cook until they turn bright green and are tender-crisp (1-3 minutes).
  2. Drain the beans, then plunge them into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. Drain again and set aside.
  3. In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the bell pepper and toss and stir for about 1 minute. Add the beans and sauté for 1 minute longer. Add the chili paste and garlic and stir for 1 minute. Drizzle with the sesame oil and season with the salt and pepper.
