This pasta recipe makes a simple and satisfying dish for the whole family. You can keep it basic for the kids or add a little crushed chili pepper to spice it up for the grownups.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. penne pasta
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2¼ cups tomatoes, chopped
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. chopped fresh basil

Optional Garnishes*:

  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package directions.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, sauté the garlic in olive oil over medium heat for approximately 2 minutes. Do not let it brown. Turn off heat and add the tomatoes and salt to the pan.
  3. When the pasta is done, drain, and pour over tomato and oil mixture. Add basil and toss to evenly coat the pasta.
  4. Top with crushed red pepper flakes, if desired.
