Pilaf is a delightful side dish that combines pasta and rice for an intriguing combination of textures.


  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • ½ cup orzo
  • 2 Tbsp. diced onion
  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 1¼ cups low sodium chicken broth, warmed
  • 1¼ cups water, warmed
  • ¼ tsp. white pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese


  1. In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Sauté orzo and onion until golden brown for (3-5 minutes).
  2. Add rice, broth, water, pepper, and bay leaf. Cover and simmer until rice is cooked (15-20 minutes). Fluff with fork, cover, and let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove bay leaf and sprinkle with cheese to serve.
