Dumplings are reminiscent of Sunday dinners with grandma. But they are incredibly easy, usually fat free and dress up your favorite soup in a matter of minutes. Why don’t we make dumplings anymore? You can add your favorite herb blend to complement the type of soup you are making. Fresh chopped chives are a favorite option. Make some today. Your grandmother will be proud.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ⅛ tsp. dried thyme leaves
  • 1 cup skim milk

Directions

  1. Sift together the flours, baking powder, and salt.
  2.  Add the thyme and milk stirring with a fork until just combined.
  3. Drop by tablespoon into boiling soup or stew. Cover, reduce heat to medium, and cook until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (10-15 minutes).
