Numerous additions can be added to this versatile sauce as it heats up in the pan. Try adding picante sauce, chopped jalapeños, diced green chilies, a pinch of cayenne, cumin, or your favorite hot sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw cashews
  • 1 (6 oz.) jar roasted red pepper, drained
  • ½ cup nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice

Directions

  1. Soak cashews for at least a half an hour or overnight.
  2. Add all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add water, as needed to obtain desired thickness.
  3. Pour into a saucepan and heat on medium until thickened, stirring often with a whisk (5 minutes).
