The fantastic flavor in these fish tacos is all about pairing a slightly spicy cream sauce with an excellent spice rub. They’re simple to make and impressive to serve, making them a great choice for dinner with friends.

Tip: Frozen tilapia will also work beautifully in this recipe.

Ingredients

Jalapeño Sauce:

  • ¼ cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • ½ jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped

Spice Rub:

  • 1½ tsp. paprika
  • 1½ tsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • ¾ tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp. ground red pepper

Tacos:

  • 1 Tbsp. canola oil
  • 4 (6 oz.) tilapia fillets
  • 8 (6") corn tortillas
  • 1 cup thinly sliced white onion
  • ½ avocado, thinly sliced
  • 4 lime wedges

Directions

  1. Combine sauce ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
  2. Stir together spices and sprinkle evenly over fish.
  3. Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook fish until flaky (3-4 minutes per side).
  4. Divide fish, jalapeño sauce, onion, and avocado evenly among tortillas. Serve with lime wedges.
