It is a community of bloggers, from mothers to nutritionists, dedicated to making smart food choices. Visitors can contribute to the blog, gain information from members of the Guiding Stars Scientific Advisory Panel, find the latest Guiding Stars recipes and also learn tips and tricks on how to incorporate healthy eating into their busy schedules.

“Guiding Stars is excited about the relaunch of our newly designed, community-based website and its integration of other social media sites,” said Jaica Kinsman, web community specialist at Guiding Stars Licensing Company. “The new site offers a community built on healthy ideals where consumers and potential licensees can learn more about nutritious food choices and healthy living.”

An important aspect to the new site is its integration with social media. Guiding Stars is now present on various social media tools such as, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, RSS, YouTube and more. The site offers hyperlinks for users to quickly access Guiding Stars while on-the-go. The improved site also offers a newsletter, information on how to become a partner, recipes with star ratings and access to the Shopper iPhone application featuring Guiding Stars.

To celebrate the launch, Guiding Stars is hosting “America’s Healthiest Big Game Recipe Challenge,” where consumers can submit their healthy and original recipes to staging.guidingstars.com in hopes of receiving three Guiding Stars. The contest runs January 4-18, 2010 and recipes can be submitted during the submission period. The first 200 entrants will be entered to win the grand prize which includes a $250 gift card for a week’s worth of groceries. Five runners-up will be awarded one $50 grocery gift card each and all six winning recipes will be featured on the website.

Guiding Stars features a proprietary algorithm that is grounded in evidence-based science and utilizes the most current guidelines and recommendations of leading national and international health organizations, such as the FDA, USDA and World Health Organization. The system credits all edible foods based on the presence of vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and whole grains, and debits for the presence of trans fat, saturated fats, cholesterol, added sugars and added sodium.
